Pod Mods Take Off: Ultra Portable Vaping Becomes King

The “pod mod” type of vape system has skyrocketed in popularity and it’s not hard to see why. As vaping has gotten more popular, technology became more accommodating for people on the move who are seeking both portability and simplicity. These vape devices are compatible with nic salt liquids of a higher nicotine concentration and replicate the experience of a tradition cigarette.

Pod mod systems (sometimes referred to as called cigalikes) are great beginner devices because they’re compact, easy to use, and offer user-friendly features.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of pods mods—closed and open systems. Closed systems use pre-filled sealed pods for one-time use, while open systems employ refillable pods that you can add your own liquid to when they run dry.

Before pod mods came onto the market, the most popular way to vape was using large mod rigs with tanks that were bulkier and required a lot of know-how and maintenance. Pod mod devices are convenient because they are smaller than mod rigs but large enough to offer quality vaping pulls.

They also utilize sleek and ergonomic designs, allowing them to slip nicely into your pocket and fit comfortably in your hand, perfect for stealth vaping. The most compact devices are typically the closed systems, which can be as narrow as a USB drive. Unlike the larger vape mods, pod mods only have either one or two main components parts instead of a standalone charger and replaceable batteries that regular mods typically use.  

Closed system disposable pod mods receive a lot of attention for their convenience and quick nic-fix. But using an open system device, while a bit more work, opens up lots more options for flavors and nicotine levels. In some ways, the pod mod system with refillable pods offers the best of both worlds. You get the portability of a smaller, compact device combined with the wider flavor and nicotine selections of more sophisticated vape mods.

Most pod mods also have the advantage of being compatible with salt-based nicotine. Salt-based nicotine continues to grow in popularity because it delivers higher nicotine levels with a smoother draw and less harsh throat hit—which happens to be the exact combo former smokers are looking for when trying to switch from cigarettes to e-cigarettes. Most open systems can be used with refillable salt-based nicotine pods and some closed systems offer pre-filled salt-based nicotine liquids.

Pod mods were one of the main forces driving the vaping market in 2018. As the vaping market grows and expands, more vapers are looking for convenient and easy-to-use devices. Boasting various compact sizes, ultra-portability, and overall attention to balancing size and power, pod mods are looking more and more like the devices of the future.
