Design

The people over at Smoant are using what they call a “quartz” coil. This is essentially a standard vertical Kanthal coil with a ceramic barrier between the wire and cotton wicking. Ceramic coils improve longevity and protect against wick burns by preventing direct contact between the heating wire and wicking cotton.

Voltage

This device uses an intuitive feature: regulated voltage. It delivers a consistent 3.4 volts of power regardless of charge rate, meaning your vaping experience remains consistent throughout each battery charge cycle. Most devices start at a higher voltage, but as the device loses power, the voltage decreases causing a decline in vapor and flavor production. With regulated voltage, the pod mod will never lose its crisp, clean flavor output.

Other Features

This model gets bonus points for including a micro-USB cable for charging, a draw-activated firing mechanism, and a high-quality mouthpiece, which is essential for MTL-devices.

Drawbacks

The drawbacks are minor and are more about what’s missing than anything wrong with the kit itself. Despite having two holes for a lanyard, there isn’t one included in the kit. This would have been an easy, inexpensive and welcome addition. Another feature they could have included was a second pod. Most kits these days come with multiple pods and although you're going to need to buy spares soon anyway, it's nice to find at least one extra in the box to buy you a little more time to re-up. But all in all, these are minor complaints for such a great device.
