E-Cig Batteries: Charging

We've covered the basics on fixed batteries versus regulated batteries, and discussed the various battery sizes and levels of power that can be used in a mod. Having a well-made and efficient charger is just as important as having good batteries. There are three trusted charger groups on the market today: the Nitecore Intellicharger or Digicharger series, the Efest LUC (even though the batteries themselves aren't recommended), and the Xtar series. While many mods will offer on-board charging, it's ideal to take the batteries out at least once in a while to give them a full charge on a standalone device.

For multiple-battery devices, follow the theory of 'married pairs' – start with a pair of brand-new batteries that will go into a dual-battery mod. Put them in at the same time, take them out at the same time, charge them at the same time. If possible, rotate which position they occupy in the battery sled, as one slot sometimes draws a little more power than the other. Whatever you do, don't pair a battery that's already been through a dozen or more charge cycles with a brand-new one – their lifespans will be different and the inefficient drawdown could put your safety at risk. When in doubt about the condition or suitability of a battery, ask whether your health and safety is worth a $7-8 gamble…most of us probably wouldn't take that chance: simply purchase a new set of batteries.
