My Favorite Mods and Tanks

Whether you’re new to vaping, or a seasoned pro, the quality of your vaping experience is largely going to depend on the quality of your equipment. There are plenty of great starter kits for beginners, which can help take out some of the guesswork and get you started. But once you’re looking to upgrade, finding the best mod and tank combination for a price that works with your budget and fits your vaping style is something that can only enhance your day to day vaping experience.

Let’s Talk Starter Kits:

My first setup was a KangerTech SUBVOD starter kit. These are great little devices, and offer a beginner pretty much all they need to start vaping. There are several color options, and although appearance shouldn’t matter much, I appreciated the pastel purple and pink options they offered in addition to the more-common streamlined black and red. The KangerTech SUBVOD is compact, portable, and offers a decent top-fill that holds 3.2ml of liquid. There are a few things to consider when purchasing—one of them being that battery life isn’t the longest given the single-18650 form factor, so be prepared to charge it a lot if you’re an active vaper. Also, I noticed my device getting hot a lot. This can be a problem when it comes to smaller devices, as vaping at the same power level puts a lot more strain on one battery than it does when the load is split between two or more cells. These older mods also don’t offer temperature control settings that are becoming more common as time passes.

Another great little device from KangerTech is the Kanger Subox Mini C Starter Kit. This is a bit of a step up from the KangerTech SUBVOD, at least in my opinion. The tank size is a slightly smaller fill at 3 ml, but when I tested this one out, I found that the design was more aesthetically pleasing while still sleek and compact. It also didn’t have the issues with the battery as much as the SUBVOD, so that was a plus.

However, if you are looking to spend a little more money, the Kanger TOPBOX Mini is going to be one of the best starters available to you. It has a top fill capacity of 4ml, so slightly larger than the other Kanger models I mentioned, and it offers temperature control with a nice OLED screen.

The SMOK Stick V8 Kit is another fabulous starter. One pro to purchasing this vape pen compared to the KangerTech models is the tank capacity. The SMOK Stick V8 model holds 5ml, which doesn’t sound like a big difference, but if a larger tank is one of the things you’re looking for, it does make this set up more convenient, and still a more compact device. This model’s tank is a little powerhouse! The SMOK TFV8 Big Baby Beast is great on flavor and cloud quality, and in my opinion, is one of the best options for the still-compact ml size tanks. The hinged-lid design is also a show-stopper when it comes to refill convenience.

Again, if you’re looking for a starter that’s a box instead of a compact stick, then you might want to check out the SMOK Q-Box 50W TC starter kit. I have a few friends who rave about this little guy. What’s awesome about this option is the ability to control the voltage, wattage, and temperature (the same feature in the Kanger TOPBOX Mini) which is not an option with the stick models. With temperature control, you can keep your device from getting too hot and prevent burning out coils and wicks.

If you’re a new vaper, I would suggest giving a starter kit a try. There are many, many options as far as choosing a starter, but you can’t go wrong with any model from KangerTech, Smok, or Eleaf. They provide an easy foot in the door to the world of vaping and are affordable enough to get you going until you feel ready to upgrade to a new tank and mod.

So, I’ve talked about starter kits, but maybe you’re starting to think about upgrading or customizing your mod with a different tank. Make sure that the tank you are looking to buy is going to work well with your mod. If you aren’t sure, just ask an expert or read up on reviews.

SMOK TFV12 Sub Ohm Tank:

This tank is fantastic. It is one of my recent additions and I love it. It has a 6ml capacity and can handle a high wattage, up to 350. The tank is great for dense cloud production. It’s available in a variety of sleek colors, including black, gold, and my personal favorite, the 7-color rainbow. I am consistently impressed with the smooth performance of this tank.

Be forewarned, though, that most of the coils for the TFV12 are going to be power-hungry. You probably don’t want to pair this one with a single-cell mod.

SMOK TFV8 Cloud Beast Sub Ohm Tank:

Like the TFV12, the previous-generation TFV8 Cloud Beast holds 6 ml and can reach very high temperatures. As the name makes obvious, cloud production on this one is really impressive. There are several options as far as compatible coils, which is great if you are a vaper who likes more control over which coils you use. They also offer several color options for maximum customization.

Tobeco Mini Super Tank:

Tobeco offers this 4 ml tank that is a good fit for a lot of mods out there. This tank is still on the smaller side, but the heat displacement capacity on this tank is pretty good, which lends well to higher-wattage vaping. It offers good flavor and cloud output, and the glass seems a little more crack resistant than some of the other tanks out there. I have had this tank for about eight months now and I still love it. It’s a bit more cost efficient too, if you’re on a budget.

Aspire Triton 2 Sub Ohm Tank:

This tank is smaller, with a 3 ml capacity, so if you’re really interested in a larger tank size, this might not be a fit for you. The Triton 2 might be small, but it offers the ability to customize your coil based on a wide spread of options, which is something that not all tanks are good for.

My Favorite Mods:

SMOK XCube II:

SMOK really did a great job with this one. Its power output is fantastic, and the mod offers temperature control anywhere between 200 and 600 degrees. What’s a real game-changer here is that the XCube offers an app that can control some of the devices settings via Bluetooth. If you’re a techie, this mod is pretty cool. Not to mention it looks and handles great.

The HexOhm V3 Box Mod:

This is a more expensive option, but it’s worth the investment if higher power and customization is important to you. This mod doesn’t come with a screen, so if that’s a feature that you really want, this may not be for you. Without the screen display, you are responsible to monitoring the voltage, which will ultimately control your end wattage (no temperature control feature here). This mod is more for the experienced vaper, and provides a good level of customization as well as temperature control and strength. It is truly powerful with a 180W output, and it’s a nice solid piece of equipment.

Are you ready to upgrade and purchase a new vape tank or mod? If so, keep in mind that there are a lot of wonderful options out there, and building a perfect mod/tank combo is a matter of preference, power and temperature needs, and ultimately a brand that works best for you and your style of vaping.
