UK Study: Ex-Smokers Outnumber Smokers
Once again, our friends "across the pond" seem to be getting right all of the things about vaping that our own government is failing to capture.
Public Health England, the national health body who back in 2015 determined that vaping was 95 percent safer than smoking, revealed this week that there are now more than twice as many former smokers as current smokers in the country. With just 16.9 percent of the English population counting themselves among the ranks of current smokers, tobacco use is lower than it's ever been.
E-cigarettes, unsurprisingly, play a huge role in helping people quit smoking. In 2015, the new study says, over a million people in England tried vaping as a tool to help their quit attempt – nearly as many as the 700,000 who used pharmaceutical drugs and 350,000 who relied primarily on quit lines and support groups combined.
As smokers turn to vaping, they're increasingly successful in their attempts to quit. Of more than 2.5 million documented cases of smoking cessation, about 500,000, or 20 percent, were successful. While those numbers may seem low, six years ago (before vaping was around in any significant way) the success rate for quitters was a dismal 13.6 percent.

Author's Note: Both my wife and I are in our mid-thirties and smoked as much as a pack a day for over 15 years. After many failed attempts to quit for the sake of our own health and that of our daughter, we found success vaping and have been a 100% tobacco-free household since July 2013. Cold turkey, over-the-counter and prescription drugs, and counseling didn't work for us – vaping did.
