Buying a Vape Pen: Ultimate Guide
It may be quite daunting to see the wide selection of vape pens available if you're new to vaping. Whether you see a simple slim one button pen or a multi-layered stainless steel pen, it'll depend on a few different factors that you're looking at when vaping.
Vaping is a new and rising industry with emerging new technology coming into the market. We'll cover a few ground rules as to what you should be looking out for or how you can make a decision when purchasing your first vape pen.
Types of Vape Pens
Since the first release of the e-cig, the industry has evolved to add new technology and innovative features. Today there are four types of vape pens:
- Fixed Voltage
- Sub-ohm tanks
- Variable Voltage
- Variable Temperature
Fixed Voltage
These are the most simple pens. You usually don't have to alter the settings. These pens typically have one button with consistent voltage. Just hit the button and fire up the smoke.
Tube mods
Tube mods are the most simplistic style of pen that packs a good punch. With only one button, you get massive firepower with an excellent internal battery. These typically lack some features and interface of a box mod.
Variable voltage
This vape allows you to customize your vaping experience by controlling the voltage output. Usually, you can mess around with the flavor intensity, throat hit, and even cloud production.
Variable Temperature
This type of pen modifies the output depending on the temperature that the user has set to by altering its coil resistance. The purpose of this modification is to prevent dry throat hits and thus to improve the vaping experience.
Battery Life
Small lithium-ion batteries usually power vape pens. Usually, the bigger the battery, the longer it lasts. Slimmer vape pens are more discreet but need to be charged more frequently.
Also, the type of e-liquid you choose will determine how long your vape pen lasts before it needs charging. Low coil resistance gives you more flavorful tastes and bigger hits, but it also uses up more power.
Typically a full charge can last you about two days, depending on how frequently you smoke.
Heating Method
Conduction Heating
This is where direct contact with the juice is made with the heated surface. Many vape pens use this method because it provides instant vaping.
However, you can lose up to one-third of what you're smoking due to an overload in combustion and poor heat distribution.
Convection Heating
This method is much more effective because the heated air is evenly distributed throughout the dry herb.
For those who want to maximize their vaping experience because there isn't any loss of substance or any feeling of having the herb watered-down since the vaping material doesn't come in direct contact.
For vape pens that have conduction heating, they are typically much pricier.
As you can see, choosing your desired vape pen will usually come down to your desired vaping experience, convenience, budget, and even the aesthetics of a vape pen.
There are plenty of affordable vape pen options where you can get the best of both worlds; you just have to look into their features and materials carefully.
