Vape Snapshot: Lumi Disposable Sub Ohm Tank from Geek Vape

The Lumi Disposable Sub Ohm Tank by Geek Vape is a unique new concept that's exactly what it sounds like: a disposable sub-ohm tank. If the hardware looks familiar, that’s because it was first included with Geek Vape’s Lucid Box Mod Starter Pack.

If replacing coil heads or cleaning your clearomizer is too cumbersome or inconvenient, the Lumi offers an easy solution. All you have to do is unscrew the tank, thread in a new one, and fill 'er up. Easy peasy. However, in exchange for convenience, this sub-ohm tank only offers a limited amount of features and functionality.

This is a pretty hefty sub-ohm tank. Standing at 1.7 inches (44.3 mm) tall and 0.9 inches (24mm) inches in diameter, the Lumi has a built-in mesh coil and 4ml juice capacity. With four different unique colors, black, gun metal, orange, and blue, these tanks look pretty cool, but don't get too attached, this is a product that's not designed to last.

The coils built into these tanks are pretty good for what they are. They’re made of Kanthal A1 (KA1) mesh coil and sport a 0.3 ohm resistance. They're at their best when vaped between 30W-45W, which puts them at the lower end of the wattage spectrum for sub-ohm vaping. As far as maintenance goes, there’s none at all. You can’t replace the coils, just toss the whole tank out once flavor or production starts to decline.

The Lumi tank has three 2.5 mm air slots on the bottom for adjustable airflow, which is accessed via a familiar slide dial. These offer a fairly nice range of airflow for vapers that have a preference for a tight or loose draw. It’s fairly intuitive to use, and easy for beginners.

Other Features

This tank includes an integrated 10mm wide drip tip and 510 threaded, gold-plated contacts. It also features a convenient top fill system and an extra silicone plug to seal the fill port.

Disposable tanks admittedly have limited appeal. Over the long run they're going to be more expensive and will create more landfill waste than clearos with replaceable coils. The airflow adjustment and limited power range are also less than ideal. Further, certain e-liquid flavors including cinnamon and citrus have been known to damage plastic tanks.

That said, these tanks could work in a handful of situations. Are you trying a new e-liquid that you've heard is particularly strong, and don't want to worry about the odor or taste seeping into your main tank? Are you planning on traveling, and don't want to be bothered disassembling your tank for coil changes on the road? Either of these situations make the Lumi an appealing backup, though serious vapers probably won't rely on this as an everyday device.

It’s hard to recommend the Lumi Disposable Sub Ohm Tank by Geek Vape, outside the confines of the unique situations we've described above. Disposable tanks seem to serve a very niche purpose, sacrificing high-quality vaping for convenience. This comes in handy if you’re not a fan of cleaning tanks or changing coils (who is?), but if you don’t mind putting in a few minutes' effort caring for your device, maybe it's best to consider this an emergency backup plan if something goes south with your primary device.
