Smok-D Barrel 225W Box Mod
The D-Barrel 225W Box Mod is made by Smok and I just can’t help but to include it on the best of 2021 list. Let’s take a look at this mod and see why we believe it is one of the best.
The Appearance and Additional Features
It’s small in size, so you can easily take it with you during your travels, so you will be able to use this mod whenever you feel like it. Looking at the D-Barrel, we feel that it has a unique look to it – it kind of looks like the Alien 220 combined with the Mag Grip.
At the side of the body, there are two curved sections cut out, which reveals the outside of the tubes for the battery, but this gives your fingers and palms somewhere comfortable to hold.
This device is available in four colors – a black body and red tubes or the same black body with a metallic rainbow effect on the tubes, a red body with black tubes, or a blue body with stainless steel tubes. All of the colors look great and in my opinion, the device is more visually striking than most of the mods out there.
The Trigger-Style Fire Button
Apart from the gun-like handle shape, the biggest similarity between the Mag Grip and the D-Barrel would be the trigger-style firing button, which is located on the mod right behind the tank.
It is in just the right position because when you hold the device in your hands, your fingers will naturally wrap around it and rest right on the trigger. By the way, the trigger is easy to press, and when you do press it, it will let out a small click.
The ergonomic design of the body combined with the trigger-style fire button is a big hit as this is what is responsible for making the device comfortable to use.
The Display Screen
The Display screen on this mod is located on the top, right beside the tank, on the opposite side of the trigger button. The screen is positioned so that it faces you as the way you would naturally hold the mod – the screen displays all of the important information you need.
On the top right, there are two battery icons, with your main setting being on the left, the firing voltage and resistance of your coil below these, and there's a bar running along the edge that will time your puffs.
The screen is on the small side when compared to the other devices, but you still get all of the important information you need without having to strain your eyes.
The Battery Compartment
You can access the battery compartment through a hinged door located on the bottom of the D-Barrel and it’s easy to open – all you have to do is pull it out horizontally, and then swing it downwards.
Inside the compartment and on the inside of the swinging door, there are clear marks for the polarity of the batteries, and when you put the batteries in, they will fit snugly inside the tubes. There’s a USB charging port located on one of the large faces towards the top, above the “D-Barrel” logo.
Using the Mod
Using the mod is fairly easy – it’s certainly not rocket science. To turn the mod on or off, it’s five clicks. Three clicks will highlight the modes and allow you to scroll between them. While you’re on this screen, you can hold down the plus and minus so that you can cycle through the screen color options.
Once you reach your selected mode, all you have to do is hold fire to accept or click it so that you can cycle through the other options. After you have highlighted the mode, you can use the plus and minus to make adjustments.
Once you’re done, hold fire to exit. That is how you adjust things like your power in temp mode, the power curve mode settings, and your TCR in TCR mode.
Changing the power in power mode or temperature in temp mode can be done any time you want – all you have to do is press the plus or minus when you are not in the mode settings.
The Safety Features
The D-Barrel has some good safety features, including low voltage protection, reverse battery protection, low and high resistance protection, high voltage protection, high internal temperature protection, short circuit protection, and a 10-second cutoff in case you accidentally fire while it is in your pocket.
There is also a key lock feature where you press both adjustment buttons together or the fire key five times and you can turn the device off entirely. All of these safety features are expected as D-Barrel always does a great job in the safety department.

Our Verdict
The D-Barrel is well made and a big hit amongst vapers of all walks of life. The battery door is solid enough to stay closed but is easy to open when you need to switch the batteries. While the device is super affordable, Smok has done an amazing job with the manufacturing. For all of the above reasons, I have included the D-Barrel on this best of 2021 list.
Aegis Legend 200W TC Box Mod - Geek Vape
Next on my list of the different types of vape mods, I have the Aegis Legend 200W TC Box Mod. The Aegis Legend is the newest mod coming from GeekVape, and it doesn’t fail to impress one bit.
This one right here is a follow up to the original Aegis, which was a single-26650 battery mod that gained a large amount of popularity for being extremely durable and water-resistant (everyone these days is looking for a water-resistant mod).
The Aegis Legend just so happens to be a dual-18650 device that is still just as durable and water-resistant, and now it has a sexy leather inlay with a rubberized exterior.
It is available in the following colors: Silver, camo, stealth black, snakeskin, black/orange.
The Build Quality and Design
The Geekvape Aegis Legend has a nice rounded rectangular design to it with a handy front-facing screen and a fire button. The design reminds us of the Paranormal mods. Some would say this mod right here is built like a tank.
There’s no button rattle or anything like that, so we can easily say this is a solid build. ON the bottom, there’s a latch battery door, making it easy to take the battery in and out when needed. Overall, this is a good-looking mod that has been well built.
The Features and Functions
The Geekvape Aegis Legends is packed full of features just as well. It basically has everything you would expect a modern-day mod to have.
The Different Modes
TCR mode, NI200 wire, TC for SS, TI, and Wattage mode. It also features a bypass mode and a wattage curve with five increments.
Colored Screen
The screen is colored and offers three color options: light blue, blue, and red. Having a couple more color options would have been ideal, but having a color screen is better than no color at all, so we can’t complain there.

Vaporesso Luxe 220W TC Box Mod
Among the different types of vape mods, we have the Luxe, which comes to us from Vaporesso. Vaporesso is a company that has established itself as one of the top vape manufacturers in the industry for the past couple of years.
The Vaporesso Luxe has a clear focus on portability and the ease of use. The device even comes with pods that all have a 2 mL capacity. Mind you, this is a traditional pod system, as the pods are refillable, but the coils have been built into the pods and those are not replaceable.
Appearance and Features
The Luxe is a stick-styled pod vape and is one of the most compact pod systems. It measures 91.85 mm x 26 mm x 16.5 mm. It’s thicker and wider than the Caliburn G, but shorter. It doesn’t weigh much at all, but when you hold it in your hands, it still has that solid feel.
It feels well built and we believe it can survive through those everyday drops and use. The body has a “leather texture” to it, which gives it a leathery appearance, but it feels hard.
Battery Life
The battery life will vary due to your vaping habit as well as which pod you choose to use. The Luxe comes with an internal battery that is listed at 1000 mAh and the charge rate is listed at 1A, with a charge time of 60-minutes using the USB-C port. The charging port can be found at the lower part of the backside, instead of at the bottom, so you will be able to stand it up while you’re charging it.
With this device, you should be able to vape through two pods before you have to charge, so if you think about it, this is an all-day vape for most. The LED acts as a battery meter, which comes in handy. Green means you have a 70-100% battery, blue means 30-70% and Red means 0-30%.
Refilling the Pods
The pods can be refilled just as you would refill the pods in the Luxe PM40. The pods do not have to be removed to refill them, all you have to do is push the mouthpiece back and it’ll pop off and a large fill hole will be exposed. On the other side, there is a small airhole, which lets air out and makes filling easy. The pod is clear and you can check it on the side to see if you’re running low.

Vaporesso did a great job with the Luxe. Sure, it’s nothing groundbreaking or new, but for new vapers or people who are looking to quit smoking, while there are different types of vape mods, this one would be the ideal device. The device does everything it promises and it comes in a well-built package that is affordable. The coils are amazing, and it just works.
